.

No pretention of completeness in mind, this blog sees the light with the idea of filling a good number of gaps here and there, where I notice that certain music that I particularly like is missing in other blogs. Therefore my intent is avoiding posting albums that are present elsewhere. Exceptions are: where I'm reported of dirty record scans, incomplete reissues often remixed and unfaithful to the originals, or when I can offer higher bitrate scans, or also when posting a title is necessary for the completeness of a thread or a discography.

Here you won't find links leading to downloads, whenever the "Link" is featured, the album is available, otherwise, it means "work in progress".... If you want an album, please write me a request in the comment section including your email address and where in the world you visit this blog from.

...and if you don't get an answer from me after a certain time, please write again - I'm sorry, but it's not rare that some emails get lost in outer space, unfortunately...

After seeing that certain people keep using some of my pictures (which are not first class, I admit it, but nevertheless were made originally by me) for their blogs, without mentioning me as the owner, I decided to apply a "watermark" on some of them.

JOAN BAEZ - In Italy (Ricordi/Vanguard, 1967)

This album was recorded in Milan, Teatro Lirico, 29th May 1967, with the exception of the last song, recorded in Vienna on June 2nd 1967. It was published by a special agreement with Vanguard records only for the Italian market, and as far as I know - Italy apart - it was never released anywhere except in Argentina. It was reprinted for the mid-price serie "Ricordi-Orizzonte" in Italy, I guess around 1976 or 77. In the record you find a curious version of "Blowing in the wind" in JAPANESE (the 1st strophe only though)! :-)))

The last song is a version of a number that hit the charts in Italy, originally sung by Gianni Morandi, "C'era un ragazzo che come me amava i Beatles e i Rolling Stones", an anti-militarist song, principally related to the Vietnam war. In the song, a young man is recruited to leave friends and music and freedom in order to fight in Vietnam, where he unfortunately will never come back from. Comparisons are made between his guitar, an intruments that gives 1000 different notes, and a machine gun, an "instrument" that can give just ONE single note: Ra-ta-ta-ta.
There exists also a black-n-white film "Joan Baez all'Arena Civica di Milano, 1970", originally braodcasted by RAI TV, but unfortunately the quality is poor, and the film is not only often interrupted by extremely loud and disrespectful audience (Joan is compelled to suspend her performance for some minutes), but also by an intruding speaker who tells a lot of NOT-interesting bullshit about the woman and her career. If someone is interested please tell me, I will upload the film as well.
As a curiosity, you have the original Italian song of Gianni Morandi here below:

  3. Thank you very much Countess. I was very happy to see this rare video of the concert. :)

I have to specify that the film refers to a performance which was recorded in the album 'Joan Baez all'Arena Civica di Milano', released in 1970, whereas the album 'Joan Baez in Italy' contains tracks recorded three years before at Teatro Lirico in Milan.
So they are two different concerts, both recorded in Italy.

In spite of the quality of the video and the 'rumboustios' crowd (as Joan Baez said) interrupting her singing, it is always wonderful to listen Joan singing and playing, especially in her young performances.

Unfortunately it isn't the whole concert, but I've noticed that there is a song in the video,'Donna Donna', which isn't recorded in the album 'Joan Baez all'Arena Civica di Milano'.

I appreciated a lot when Joan sings 'At the brand new Tennessee waltz', because you can see and listen that she is really enjoing playing and singing the song (as she said before singing)...And 'So, let all of your passionate violins' maybe was her favourite passage of the song, because she seemed to be very inspired... :)

In my opinion this song and 'Sweet Sir Galahad' (which isn't unfortunately in the video, but was recorded in the album 'Joan Baez all'Arena Civica di Milano') are the best of the concert... :)

    Yours sincerely,
    Barbara
