In many ways Winsor and Sullivan were typical of folk club hosts all over Britain - hearty, knowledgeable, often very loud. Which is why this album is such a great memento of the period.<br /><br />The Troubadour, of course, was THE place to visit for British folkies up from the sticks, or Americans passing through. Dylan played there, as did Paul Simon. I remember, on my first visit, being horrified to find hundreds (or so it seemed) of old mandolins, banjos etc. hanging from the ceiling as decoration.
