For completists first, but not only for them
"Bob Dylan vs A. J. Weberman: The Historic Confrontation"
Recorded Jan 1971, published in 1977 and ryteaway withdrawn
My copy sounds still immaculate, although this time we might even accept a normal-quality recording. No Bob Dylan's music, but two long phonecalls which led to legal controversy at the time this record saw the light... On the album we find three songs, two by David Peel and one by Grace Slick (with Great Society, recorded 1965), I understand that a reel-to-cassette version, with the two men talking, was/is circulating, but it obviously lacks the songs.
I didn't yet lose hope to hear one day the song "AJ pig", announced by Dylan in the interview... Producer was Gary Green, not Gentle Giant's member, I guess.
***************************
After a self-crowning ceremony, Weberman dared to call himself no less than "Dylanologist". Meaning, I assume, that Dylan supplies... Dylan, but who's the one supposed to supply the "logism"?
AJ Weberman, in his Roaring Garbage Years, from this website

I decided to make an exception for this LP, because of the TENS of requests that I received, therefore I'll just post the link directly here, so that everybody's happy, OK my friends?

Uhh...are we supposed to be able to hear the Weberman album? If so, how?
ReplyDeleteI received a reel to reel copy directly from A.J. many years ago. I assume it still plays, but as you say it is for completists only.
ReplyDeleteMr. Anonymous, it's written up there, under the blog's name: "...write me a request in the comment section including your email address and where in the world you visit this blog from."

To Mr. Anonymous Nr 2:
ReplyDeleteFrom AJ directly, interesting...! yes, it seems that he must have tried to make as much publicity as he could for himself, spreading free copies of the phonecalls to anyone who was possibly interested.
Hey by the way, I hope you took care to disinfect that tape, remember that AJ used to ransack all possible Dylan's trash (and Dylan used to fill his cans with dog shit!) - LOL!
Back to the point: the only thing that I never understood is how comes that such a good Label Company as Folkways has decided to publish this LP. It's obvious that Dylan would have right away made a mess in order to have it withdrawn!
I would be in any case interested to hear the tape that AJ gave for free, probably it contains further material that the Folkways excluded from the album...
Thanks for your comment, see you again :-)
